Dr. Wachs invited Dr. Amanda Zeller to join the practice in 2005 and has taught her all aspects of his specialty.  While Dr. Wachs is still available to see patients on a limited basis, Dr. Zeller has taken over patient care and is the owner of the Vision & Conceptual Development Center.

Dr. Zeller earned her Doctorate in Optometry with honors at Nova Southeastern University in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. She completed an externship program with emphasis in Binocular Vision at Tianjin Medical University’s Tianjin Eye Hospital, People’s Republic of China, studying under Dr. Kanxing Zhao, a world-renowned expert in strabismus, strabismus surgery, and ophthalmic genetics. Prior to joining the VCDC, Dr. Zeller provided patient care in San Diego, California, and in the greater Washington, DC, area. In addition to her tutelage under Dr. Harry Wachs, Dr. Zeller has studied extensively with other experts in vision therapy and is currently COVD (College of Optometrists in Vision Development) board eligible. Dr. Zeller lectures at schools, workshops, and symposia and is available for speaking engagements. In March 2009, Dr. Zeller participated in a volunteer mission in conjunction with Lions Clubs International to Gomez Palacio, Mexico, to provide examinations and eyeglasses to needy people. Dr. Mehrnaz Azimi Green graduated at the top of her class from Nova Southeastern University College of Optometry, where she specialized in pediatrics and binocular vision. Her expertise lies with diagnosing and treating patients to develop their visual and cognitive knowledge. She enjoys working with children, including infants and toddlers, with special needs. She was the clinical director of the Charles River Vision and Learning Center in Massachusetts before joining the VCDC. Dr. Green enjoys speaking to parents and professionals about visuo-cognitive therapy and has lectured at schools, conferences, and symposia. Dr. Green volunteers at multiple area schools and has received several national awards for her skills and knowledge in vision therapy. When she’s not working, Dr. Green spends her time with her husband and two young daughters.

Dr. Harry Wachs, a pioneer in Vision Therapy, has been practicing Optometry for sixty years and lectures internationally to patients, parents, and doctors about his unique approach to Vision. Dr. Wachs is co-author of the book Thinking Goes to School and the test Wachs Analysis of Cognitive Structures, and has authored numerous journal publications. He was an early student of Swiss developmental psychologist Jean Piaget's theories about the nature and development of thinking, and began working with one of Piaget's colleagues on educational innovation. In 1991, Wachs opened the VCDC featuring developmental optometry based on a Piagetian approach. His visual-cognitive therapy regime is based on the premise that "visual-spatial knowledge" -- how we understand and manipulate what we see -- plays a major role in the way children learn and live. Dr. Wachs has lectured at Catholic University and George Washington University, and is currently on faculty at the ICDL graduate school. Dr. Wachs also works with the Washington Redskins and other football teams to screen players and improve their visual skills.
